Thursday Night Hike

Thursday Evening Hike, April 4 6:00 PM

Another dry hike last week, however, this Thursday it looks like we may actually see some moisture. We never cancel due to weather so come on out and enjoy all that hiking in the Pacific Northwest entails.

 

What: Cougar Mountain, Shangri-La – Anti-Aircraft Ridge Loop: 2.7 miles, 530 feet elevation gain.

When: We will begin promptly at 6 pm, Thursday April 4.

Where: Anti-Aircraft Peak Trailhead (Harvey Manning Trailhead)

From I-90: take the Lakemont Exit (#13) and drive south up Lakemont Blvd. SE for approximately 2 miles. The road will climb, reach a high point at Lewis Creek Park and begin descending. Shortly after Lakemont Blvd begins to descend turn LEFT (east) on SE Cougar Mountain Way. The road will gradually climb, turn left and level off then turn sharply right. SE Cougar Mountain Drive continues passing a school then up and right making a quick zigzag, climbing some then descending slightly. The road changes to gravel as you enter Cougar Mountain Wildland Park. Continue up to its end, parking and the trailhead.

From I-405: take Exit #10 (less than a mile south of I-90). Drive east on Coal Creek Parkway. In 1 mile turn LEFT onto Forest Drive SE. In 2.1 miles turn LEFT onto Lakemont Blvd. SE. then turn RIGHT in about 0.1 mile (the next right) onto SE Cougar Mountain Way. The road will gradually climb, turn left and level off then turn sharply right. SE Cougar Mountain Drive continues passing a school then up and right making a quick zigzag, climbing some then descending slightly. The road changes to gravel as you enter Cougar Mountain Wildland Park. Continue up to its end, parking and the trailhead.

 

From Renton area: take Hwy 900 east and turn LEFT onto Duvall Rd which becomes Coal Creek Parkway. 2.2 miles from Hwy 900 turn RIGHT onto 133rd Ave SE/Newcastle Golf Club Rd. Follow for 2.9 miles – the road will pass Red Town Trailhead and climb – 2.9 miles from Coal Creek Parkway turn RIGHT onto SE Cougar Mountain Way. The road will gradually climb, turn left and level off then turn sharply right. SE Cougar Mountain Drive continues passing a school then up and right making a quick zigzag, climbing some then descending slightly. The road changes to gravel as you enter Cougar Mountain Wildland Park. Continue up to its end, parking and the trailhead.

 

Weather: Showers possible with a high near 57.
