Thursday Evening Hike, 6:00 PM September 5

Our hike September 5 will be on the west end of Cougar Mountain led by Greg Ransom.

What:  Cougar Mountain, Crosstown trail to DeLeo Wall Loop: 3.5 miles, 750 feet elevation gain

This is a lovely and lesser-known trail climbing steadily for over a mile to a junction just inside Cougar Mountain Wildland Park. A clockwise loop, turning left at each of the two main trail junctions, returns one to the start of the loop where a 1.3-mile descent to the trailhead concludes the hike.

WhenWe will begin promptly at 6 pm, Thursday September 5.

Where: Trailhead off 136th Ave SE, Newcastle: Across the street from Beit Tikvah Messianic Congregation 7935 136th Ave SE, Newcastle, WA 98059.

From I-90: take the Lakemont Exit (#13) and drive south up Lakemont Blvd. SE for 4.9 miles. The road name will change to Newcastle Golf Club Road after the sweeping bend passing Red Town Trailhead. Turn LEFT onto 134th Ave SE and follow 0.4 miles to a 4-way stop. Drive straight ahead and park across the street from the Beit Tikvah Messianic Church. Do not park in the wide turn-around just before the road changes to one-way. 

From I-405: take Exit #10 (less than a mile south of I-90). Drive southeast on Coal Creek Parkway 3.9 miles and turn LEFT onto SE 79th Place. Drive up the hill and take the first RIGHT onto 136th Ave SE and park across the street from the Beit Tikvah Messianic Church. Do not park in the wide turn-around just before the road changes to one-way.

From Renton area: take Hwy 900 (Sunset) east and turn LEFT onto Duvall Rd, which becomes Coal Creek Parkway. 2.0 miles from Hwy 900 turn RIGHT onto SE 79th Place. Drive up the hill and take the first RIGHT onto 136th Ave SE and park across the street from the Beit Tikvah Messianic Church. Do not park in the wide turn-around just before the road changes to one-way.
