Thursday Evening Hike, 6:00 PM July 18

This will be the last of the longer hikes before gradually trimming distance as we move beyond July into August and September. This weeks hike gains steadily throughout and somewhat steeply towards the top. The pace on this hike will be elevated over previous weeks to allow adequate time to get up and back before dark.

We have been on the trail for eighteen weeks and have about eleven weeks remaining. 

What:  Squak Mountain, East Ridge Trail: 6.2 miles, 2100 feet elevation gain

This trail ambles through pleasant forests gaining 2100 feet in 3 miles to the Summit of Squak Mountain (sometimes steeply).

WhenWe will begin promptly at 6 pm, Thursday July 18.

WhereSquak Mountain Access Trail from Sunrise Place SW: 1230 Sunrise Place SW, Issaquah. You will see the trailhead on the right as you descend a gentle hill.

From I-90 at Exit 15: 
Head south on Hwy 900 (Renton-Issaquah Rd. SE) past the first light (Gilman) and turn Left at the second light onto NW Maple St. This will turn into SE Newport Way in 0.5 mile. Follow SE Newport Way for 1.0 miles to W Sunset Way. Go through the light at Sunset continuing 0.1 mi to a Right turn onto Wildwood Blvd SW. Follow Wildwood Blvd SW for 0.5 mi – after 0.4 mi the road will curve right and climb – turn Left onto Sunrise Pl SE and follow for about 0.4 mi. See the trailhead sign on the right side of the road. Park along the curb anywhere between the trailhead and 1st Pl SE just downhill from the trail.

From I-90 at Exit 17
Follow Front Street south (very bust late afternoon/early evening) to W Sunset Way. Turn Right onto W Sunset Way then Left onto SE Newport Way. In 0.1 mi turn Right turn onto Wildwood Blvd SW. Follow Wildwood Blvd SW for 0.5 mi – after 0.4 mi the road will curve right and climb – turn Left onto Sunrise Pl SE and follow for about 0.4 mi. See the trailhead sign on the right side of the road. Park along the curb anywhere between the trailhead and 1st Pl SE just downhill from the trail.

From Renton area: 
Drive Hwy 900 to SE May Valley Road. Turn right and follow SE May Valley Road to Issaquah-Hobart Road. Turn left and drive Issaquah-Hobart Road approximately 3 miles and turn left onto SE Newport Way then the first Left onto Wildwood Blvd SW. Follow Wildwood Blvd SW for 0.5 mi – after 0.4 mi the road will curve right and climb – turn Left onto Sunrise Pl SW and follow for about 0.4 mi. See the trailhead sign on the right side of the road. Park along the curb anywhere between the trailhead and 1st Pl SE just downhill from the trail.
